Otonashi shrine

In the inner part of Uranouchi bay, there is Otonashi shrine where the entrance path has been constructed as if you were entering from the sea, and the main building of the Shinto shrine called “Miyajima Tosa” has been constructed to face the sea. The construction date back during Kamakura era in 1251, the actual main building of the Shinto shrine was constructed back in 1663 and has been designated as important cultural asset in the country. It has become the Motomiya of Tosa and Kochi. Every year in August, the brave summer festival called Shimane festival is held. For this occasion, mikoshi (portable shrine) are put on a group of boats. Also, in August of the ancient Japanese calendar the ancient rites called Chiripetto are held.
